Focusing on the whole family

We understand that challenges can arise at any time – and at any age. Our professional staff members apply their broad range of results-oriented therapy skills to counseling children, adolescents, and adults. Through an integrated approach, we can effectively address a wide variety of complex challenges that are often inter-related and inter-generational.

Results Oriented Therapy

The Family Center takes a results-oriented approach with each of our clients. From the start, we work closely with you to identify family and individual problems. Together, we choose the most effective and direct therapeutic approach. In addition, we can coordinate with other professionals to create a comprehensive treatment plan. We are committed to helping you find solutions.

Counseling Experience that makes a Difference

At The Family Center, our success largely stems from the experience of our staff and our founder, Dr. Gail K. Walter, who created The Family Center in 1984.

A licensed psychologist, Dr. Walter received her Ph.D. from the University of Maryland in 1976. Since then, she has focused her professional skills on helping the families of Howard County live more fulfilling lives through therapy for individuals and therapy for families.

Dr. Walter supervises a staff of licensed, trained professionals, all of whom provide the highest quality of service to The Family Center’s clients.

When you and your family face critical problems, you deserve help right away. From your first contact, you’ll receive immediate, responsive support from our professional staff of clinicians, as well as reliable follow-up in a timely manner. From our first meeting with you to our last, we aim to ease your concerns and identify solutions.

The Family Center coordinates and works with many people, schools, and other practices in the community. This is to ensure that you are not just getting the care you deserve within the Family Center, but in every aspect of your life to optimize success. We provide many resources for clients that may aid in you or your child's journey.
