Providing mental health services for children, adolescents, and families.

Frequently Asked Questions

(1)  Does your practice accept insurance?

The Family Center, like most mental health practices is a fee-for-service practice. This means that we provide each client with a Super Bill containing all necessary information to obtain direct reimbursement to the holder of the insurance. A Super Bill is provided at the time of payment at each visit. While insurance plans vary with regard to reimbursement fees, typical reimbursement for mental health services can range from 50% to 80%. It is always a good idea to contact your insurance carrier for specific information about your benefit plan.

(2) Where are you located?

Our therapy practice is located in Ellicott City, MD and is convenient to many other locations throughout Central Maryland, including Anne Arundel County, Baltimore County, Frederick County, Howard County, and more.

We see clients Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 5 PM. Emergency appointments may be available outside of those hours.

(4) How long will my appointment take?

Your appointment length will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to the kind of treatment being sought and the severity of your presenting concerns.

(5) Who do you treat?

We provide a wide range of therapy services to Maryland residents of all ages, including children, adolescents, adults and families.

(6) What do you treat?

We treat a variety of disorders, with some of the most common being ADD, depression, and anxiety. For a full list of conditions we treat, visit our How We Can Help page.

(7) How do I schedule an appointment?

Simply call our office phone at 410-531-5087 between 10 AM and 5 PM on weekdays. If you need to call outside of that time window, you will be able to leave a message, and we will get back to you promptly about your appointment.

If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, call 911 immediately.

(8)  What is your policy on missing an appointment?

Our therapy practice prides itself on being highly available to see our clients when necessary. We take missed appointments seriously and charge a fee for each appointment that is not cancelled at least 24 hours in advance.

(9)   Who should I contact if I have a question about my bill?

Call 410-531-5087 and ask for Gail Jenkins.

(10) How soon will my child be seen after I call The Family Center?

We strive to schedule appointments, especially appointments for children, as quickly as possible. Most likely, your child will be seen within one week of calling us, but it could easily be sooner as well. We cannot promise how quickly your child will be seen because that is based on the number of other appointments we have scheduled during the week that you call.

(11) How do you decide who will see my child? Can I choose which provider I would like to see my child?

You of course can request a specific provider and we will attempt to honor that request.

(12) Can I talk to the therapist before I schedule?

If you request a phone consultation prior to scheduling an appointment, our office will make every effort to arrange that.
